Spanish at the UN
On April 23, the “Day of the Spanish Language” is celebrated at the United Nations to raise awareness among the staff of the Organization, and the world in general, about the history, culture and use of Spanish as an official language.
Activities to celebrate Spanish Day
From April 22 to May 10, you can see a photographic exhibition entitled “Images of the so-called New World”. It is a series of portraits of South Americans or Central Americans who speak Spanish, in addition to their native languages such as Quechua, Aymara, Yucatec, Mixtec or Nahuatl. The author of the photographs is Jorge Martín, translator of the United Nations. The exhibition is sponsored by the Spanish Translation Service of the Department of General Assembly and Conference Management ( DGACM ) and can be seen in the lobby of the Albano Building in New York.
